It was July 2019 in Austin, TX. Sabrina and Ryan were both living their best single lives until they bumbled into each other the way all traditional relationships start, by swiping right (or was it left?) on Bumble.
Sabrina thought it was cool that Ryan was so into music, and Ryan thought it was interesting that Sabrina was learning to play the harmonica. Ryan is still into music and Sabrina is still really bad at the harmonica.
The first time they met was after Sabrina was out with her friend at a Frida Kahlo Friday event in downtown Austin. Sabrina had a little Frida painted on her face. They decided to meet up at Cheer Up Charlie's, one of Austin's premier music venues. Ryan had a whole night planned and asked Sabrina if she liked psychedelic rock music to which she replied, no. And he said, well that's what we're doing. And that set the stage for the next five (six by the time they tie the knot) years.
Sabrina and Ryan dated for a few months before making it official. While dancing to the Rolling Stones on Ryan's birthday, he formally asked Sabrina for exclusive dating rights. She obliged.
Ryan met Seminole Wind early in the relationship and the first time she jumped up and gave Ryan a welcoming bark; though he may say it was more of a stay away from my mom bark. Nonetheless, Seminole Wind became Ryan's buddy, spending much of the beginning of working from home at his side playing the helper dog role. The trio had amazing adventures all over Texas, long drives to Pennsylvania and Florida, and snuggles on Seminole’s favorite red leather couch.
After Seminole's sudden passing, Sabrina and Ryan decided to take their work from home lifestyle and make it more “work from anywhere.” They started traveling all over: Mexico City, Hawaii, Canada, all over the western US, and Italy. They kept up the travel-bug life for about two years. After an extended stay in Italy, Sabrina and Ryan brought back the best care package of all time - a new baby daughter, Viola Perri Smith!
Viola is the brightest light in their life and they are so looking forward to spending their special day all together as a family. While Viola was still cooking in the oven, Ryan developed a plan to propose to Sabrina. The plan? There really wasn't one and he was just waiting for the perfect moment. The ring survived in his pocket for a whole weekend traversing all over Pittsburgh, sightseeing with his parents, including on a tiki boat on the Three Rivers. The moment hadn't presented itself yet. Until… the day of the baby shower. Sabrina and Ryan invited their family over for dinner on June 1, 2024.
Sabrina was sitting in a plastic chair, booming belly, pink hair a mess, barefoot and tired from the activities from the baby shower while Ryan proposed a toast, thanking our family for being together, including Sabrina’s three grandparents. As he toasted he leaned down to Sabrina in her chair and said how much he loves her and asked her to marry him. So many times Sabrina thought about the smartass remark she'd make, but all she could manage was laughter with a smile and a hug, saying yes, of course.
A special moment shared with the family leading up, eventually, to their special wedding day on October 25, 2025. They are so excited to share and celebrate love with their family and friends in their favorite Texas honky-tonk.
